Feather meal is a protein concentrate very rich in α-keratin. This protein is characterized by its strong secondary and tertiary structure, with a high proportion of disulfide bridges between cystine residues. Due to its concentration in amino acids with hydrophobic groups (phenylalanine, isoleucine, valine and alanine) so its solubility in water is low. It is a palatable and highly digestible protein concentrate.
